First blog of the new website! Year is 2025 of July and so far the weather has been rainy, humid and warm. All the more reason to stay in and create more art and stickers.
I love Frogs. They're green (favorite color), they're strangely cute and make amazing noises that quiet my mind and body.
I grew up in a small area in Elysian Valley named Frogtown. Elysian Valley is in Los Angeles, just below Dodger Stadium-in California. The neighborhood sits alongside the Los Angeles river and every year there was a swarm of baby frogs ALL over the streets. This is a fairly small area, slender and long. Some streets like ours only had 3-4 houses on either side. There were and probably still are a few factories closest to the river, then houses, then the Main Street that ran all along Frogtown -Riverside Dr.
I remember many a day walking down to the river to catch polliwogs and guppies, my stepdad like the guppies and used to keep a small fish bowl full of them. I liked the polliwogs , of course. It was fun to see them grow and lose their tail as they got bigger. Some frogs would burrow into the gardens that we had in our backyard and some were flattened by our family car driving in and out of the driveway! Lots of cool and wild memories of my childhood living in "Frogtown"!
I have read that there is an "art community" in Frogtown nowadays. Id love to visit my old neighborhood again someday and check it out. That and my family home that we grew up in, I no longer live in California. Im now in Ohio and have been for 40+ years raising my kids and grands.
